In this section we take a look at the rules generally covering food labelling under The Food Labelling Regulations 1996. Food names, the list of ingredients, flavourings and additives are covered, along with QUIDs (quantitative ingredient declarartions), durability indications ('best before' and 'use by' dates) and the origin or provenance of food.
The advent of the food information to consumers Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 means this is an area where there are changes to come with the first implementation milestone on 13 December 2014.
Future additions here in the coming months will include Claims and Nutrition, and Quantity and Price Marking.
